Yamba Veterans Championship run & won

This year’s Veteran Single Championship was completed last weekend with the playing of the two semi-finals last Saturday and the final on Sunday.

Saturdays semi-finals saw spectators witness a comprehensive victory for Bob Ballantyne over Greg Johnson to the tune of 25 shots to 10 whilst the other semi proved to also be a relatively one-sided affair before the evergreen John McKenna overcome a gallant Neville Hillyard by 26 shots to 13

Sunday’s final saw Bob Ballantyne, by 19 shots to 14, eventually take this year’s title in a very hard fought, competitive match over John McKenna.

Both bowlers produced a good standard of bowls in what was a truly worthy finale watched by an appreciative audience.

This coming Saturday we will be holding the Bob Ware Memorial Triples where teams from the Yamba club and other clubs within the local vicinity come together to not only compete in the tournament but also contribute to our major yearly fundraiser towards the Leukemia Foundation.

Bob Ware was a well-loved member of our greenkeeping staff for many years who sadly passed away from Leukemia several years ago so the Yamba club instigated this event in Bob’s honour to assist with the continued research into hopefully finding a cure and improved treatment for all who may be suffering from Leukemia.

Sunday December 4 we will be running the Yamba Mixed Three Bowl Pairs Tournament with over thirty teams presently nominated to play in this event.

There is still room for more entries into both these tournaments so if you would like to nominate for either or both, please contact Peter Forrester on 0447 883 180 to do so.

I can not possibly finish this week’s report without mentioning the magnificent performance by Yamba’s Division 3 ladies Pennant side who covered themselves in glory by taking out the NSW Division 3 State Final at Bomaderry recently.

This is an outstanding result for both team and club, so a mammoth congratulations to all the ladies involved.
