The Yamba Orcas Swimming Club are all swimming with power. Membership is up this year and the kids have been smashing PB’s, improving their race skills and generally having a blast at our weekly Friday evening meets at Yamba Community Pool. Some children have been taking club swimming to the next level and attending inter-club carnivals on the North Coast over the weekends. The recent Coffs Harbour North Coast Championships, was the last chance to chase times for State Club long distance Championships in Sydney. A keen group of Toby Campbell, Alani Berry, Sienna and Gus Gilbert attended and had huge success with PB’s in all events and some medals for some, and even a North Coast record broken by Alani in breaststroke. A highlight for the Orcas was definitely a 5th place in the medley relay – having never practised and up against some very large clubs. The kids were all pumped to swim as a team and were really excited with their result. The club thanks coach Richard Beresford, who also makes most of the carnivals. Last week the Orcas had a mini meet at Maclean swimming pool against the Manta Rays. The Orcas last meet before the Christmas break will be their Christmas party this Friday (December 9) at Yamba Pool at 5.30pm. Orcas run family BINGO on Thursday nights during the school holidays in January. It is always a great fundraiser for the Orcas and a traditional event for many locals and holiday makers in Yamba.
