Yamba lady bowlers Christmas party on Thursday

Tuesday November 23

Eyeing a place in the final of the 2021 Consistency competition, the semi-finalists took to the greens in good conditions with Marianne Jenner proving she was too good on the day for Joan Scadden and coming home with a 150 – 109 win after keeping her nose in front for the majority of the game. Marker was Wendy Ballantyne.

On the other semi-final Rink, it was a very tight competition between two very consistent bowlers, Judy Button taking on Monica Parker.

Consistency 2021 Champion Monica Parker with Runner-up Marianne Jenner

Monica led for the first 8 ends until Judy found her form and scored an 8 and 9 on consecutive ends. This put a different perspective on the game and with Judy 3 points behind Monica gathered herself and managed to keep her nose ahead until the 18th end when Judy scored the coveted 10 points. Judy sailed ahead increasing the lead with each end but with the score at 112 – 98 Monica picked up a 9 and by the 26th end was 2 shots ahead. Despite Judy’s valiant efforts to pin her down the end result was Monica 150 to Judy’s 146. A great effort by both contenders. Marker was Robyn McPherson.

The Lyn Olsson Singles Challenge was also in progress on an adjoining Rink with Julie Coulter having her 4th stab at retaining the title. But it was Carol Ritale who stole her thunder defeating Julie 25 – 13 and putting her out of the competition and making way for next contender Barbara Backshall.

On the social bowls scene, the match between Ros Moore and Chris Gunning was a game of chasey all through with one shot the difference for most of the game but it was Chris who took home the Bowlo Bucks with a single shot win and the winner’s prize with the help of his team – new bowler wife Kathy and B. McManus.

Ros’s team was again Kathy (swinger) and M. McBey. Runners-up prize went to yet another close one – a tied game. S. Lindsay, D. Atkinson d S. Moore, B. Andrews with a countback on ends. Consolation prize went to M. McManus, T. Allen d by M. Sakac, L. Duncan. Also M. Abbott, N. Kibble, H. Atkinson d J. Madden, S. Farrar, G. Davis.

Thursday November 25

We’ve arrived at the final of the last competition for 2021 and it proved to be the close and exciting game we expected from two very competent bowlers vying for the title of Consistency Champion 2021.

Finalists Monica Parker and Marianne Jenner delighted spectators with fine draw bowls from both players and the scores very close until the end. But it was Monica who led for most of the game, be it a fine margin. Finally, it was a close call with Monica taking the final 150 – 149. Congratulations to both players on a fine performance. Marker was President Bev Shatte.

Thanks to all the markers and officials throughout 2021 and to Match Committee for their hard work, managing to stage all our competitions in what was, a difficult year.

And the Lyn Olsson Singles Challenge continued with Carol Ritale retaining the title against Barbara Backshall but not without some very feisty play from this very new and promising bowler.

Score-line 25 – 13. Marker was Kaye Mason.

Social bowls managed only two Rinks today with only one winner – team M. McManus (swinger), S. Lindsay, J. Abbott d M. McManus, M. Sakac, C. Aitchison and a close one with J. Madden, M.  Wall, L. Duncan having a narrow win over M. Abbott, P. McKenna, G. Davis.

It’s stumps next week with our last day for 2021 being the Christmas party on Thursday December 2 – no bowls just a fun, festive wind-down for the year with raffles, competitions and good food.
