Will Woldseth wins midweek Yamba golf

The course at Yamba Golf & Country Club re-opened for play on Thursday after the deluge which turned it into a lake during the past couple of weeks.

The fairways were still very wet in parts though. Leading Junior, Will Woldseth, must have kept up his practice during the lay off and easily scored the best round of the day to win C Grade with a massive 42 points. He was followed by Robert Watson and Dennis Blackburn who both scored 36.

In A Grade, Barry Fisher took the winner’s voucher with a solid 39 points from Des Hall and Andre Rizk, both of whom returned scores of 37.

In B Grade, Jan Dampney continued his run of good scores to win with 38 points on a countback from Andy King. Marc Chiaruttini was in third place with 37.

NTP’s were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Yamba Barber Shop.

On the 3rd Brendan Parkes was closest at 34cm; 9th and 10th Andrew Smart 214 & 204cm respectively; 12th Danny Quin 155; 17th Greg Wyllie 227cm.

Pro Pin winners: 0-14 Richie Carter and 15-54 Steve Grimes. The ball rundown went to 33 with 14 on the back nine.

Good scores in Saturday Stableford

Two days of sunny, windy weather saw the course dry out remarkably well and scores were much better than the midweek competition. The Greens staff are to be congratulated on the huge amount of work they have put in which enabled golf to resume so quickly.

Greig Little and Henry Heron each scored 40 points in A Grade, and it took the countback to separate them. Third place went to Brendan Parkes with 38c/b.

Greg Laforest returned to the winner’s podium in B Grade with 39 points followed by the consistent Jan Dampney (38) and Leigh Wilson (Maclean) also 38.

C Grade winner was Bruce Kilby (38) with Bryan Groth and Roger Cotton both scoring 36 to take the minor placings on countback.

NTP winners: 3rd Andrew Rizk 248cm; 9th Stephen Lamb 136cm; 10th Greg Wyllie 462cm; 12th Harry Peacock 92cm; 17th Neil Gore-Brown 148cm. We thank the sponsors of the NTP’s, SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Bean Scene Café. Pro Pin winners were 0-14 Andre Rizk and 15-54 Peter Brennan. To win a ball in the rundown 34/13 was needed.

Smarts win Mixed Ambrose

A small field of enthusiastic golfers played a 2-person Ambrose on Sunday in perfect conditions. Excellent scores were recorded by all those playing but, best on the day, were Fiona and Andrew Smart with 65.75. The ball rundown went to 68.75,
