WGNR Pennants play has been cancelled

With a field of 39 players, last Wednesday’s Yamba ladies’ competition only had one grade.

While numbers were down, we were all thrilled to be able to get out for a hit after many weeks of interrupted play in mostly miserable conditions.

Two days of sun had helped the course to improve slowly but most of the ladies found it tough going.

Congratulations to our winners including Tiffany Lee who came home with a fabulous score of 38pts followed by Carol MacPherson who was the next best with 36pts. Fay Gimenez was third with 35pts c/b. There were not many scores in the 30s, so well done!

Our very excited Secret Nine winner was Jane Bonner 19pts c/b.

The NTP sponsors and winners: Tech Lab 3rd – Carrie Aitken; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Penny Cope; Leonie May Millinery 9th (2nd) – Val Pate; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – NA; The Shoe Boutique 12th – Sue Scott; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – NA and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Jacky Penfold. Balls were awarded to 31pts.

A field of 28 ladies participated in our Single Stableford round last Friday. The skies looked ominous early in the day, but we were blessed with lovely playing conditions for most of the morning. Unfortunately, by the end of the day’s play the skies had opened again and many groups had to endure heavy rain at the conclusion of their rounds.

With only one grade, Jane Bonner starred again with a great win (35pts). Jane Madden was Jane’s closest rival scoring 34pts c/b as r/up. Congratulations to our two Janes.

Our NTP winners: Flots and Jets 3rd – Kathy Parker; Valley Finance 3rd (2nd) – Jo Foley; Peter Campbell Physio 9th (2nd) – Ann Groom; Kitchen to Table 10th – Vanessa Berry; Amie Rose Beauty 12th – Kathy Parker; Nicholson’s Fine Foods 17th – NA and Yamba Pharmacy 17th (2nd) – Terri Collingburn. Balls were awarded to 30 pts c/b.

No Saturday competition was held due to overnight rain.

Entries are open for Casino’s Beef Roundup Open Day (2BBB Aggregate Stableford) to be held on Friday May 20. Entries close on May 9.

Grafton’s annual May Tournament will take place from May 25-27. Entries close on Wednesday, May 11. Please contact Margery to enter either of these events.

Play in Round 2 of the 2022 Knockout competition rounds has been extended. If the weather co-operates there will be results to publish in next week’s report.

It goes without saying that the weather this year has played havoc with a number of the courses on the Far North Coast. As a result, WGNR has decided to cancel the 2022 Pennants competition. While disappointing, it will be a relief to many whose courses and lives have taken a hit with recent flooding.

Once again, please remember to place your name on the Wednesday competition entry sheets located in the golfers’ lounge and keep abreast of updates and adjustments to our golfing calendar by checking your emails or the Yamba ladies Facebook page.

Happy golfing!
