Week’s weather impacts on Yamba ladies’ golf

We felt very fortunate to be able to play last Wednesday December 8 with the course being unplayable after persistent rain on Tuesday.

The rain which continued throughout Tuesday night didn’t help the situation and, as a result, we were only able to play on the front nine holes. Ten ladies completed two circuits and Gail Gore-Brown (37pts) was the winner of a $20 Pro Shop voucher. Lyn Rowland won the 3rd NTP, and Julie Grant and Fiona Smart won balls in the rundown (to 35pts).

With the back 9 still closed due to the wet weather on Friday, two rounds were played on the front nine. In mostly boggy conditions, Fay Gimenez was the best of the field of 17, with 38pts ($20 voucher) and Jenny Dewar was the runner up on 37pts ($15 voucher). Sue Scott won a ball for the NTP 3rd. The ball rundown went to 30pts on countback with the winners being: Jenny Moody, Glen Czarnota, Sue Scott and Mary Hogan.

For the duration of the summer competition, grade winners and runners up are not eligible to win a ball in the ball rundown. Vouchers and balls won in the rundown and NTP should be collected from the Pro Shop. Prizes will not be added to your club account, as this competition is being generously managed and sponsored by Jamie Corkill in the Pro Shop.

Two days of sunshine in the latter part of the week made a huge difference to the course after a very wet week. On Saturday, the dams were full, and the sun was shining for the 11 ladies who played single Stableford. Tiffany Lee had a lovely consistent game, winning with 37 points. Kathy Parker was runner up with 32 points. Julie Campbell won NTP.

This week marks the beginning of the Yamba ladies golf gift wrapping fundraiser, an activity which will continue through until Christmas Eve. Each day, from 10.30am to 3pm, our volunteers will be at Yamba’s fabulous Kitchen To Table store to wrap Christmas gifts in exchange for a gold coin donation. Huge thanks go to Scott and Meredith Morschel (the store owners), who are generously matching the donations which are received with a dollar-for-dollar amount. Many thanks also go to our volunteers who are helping to make this fundraiser a success.

We’re hoping for fine conditions for this week’s games. There will be no Saturday competition this weekend due to the upcoming MI Organics Pro-Am event. Come along and grab a seat on the deck on Saturday and Sunday to watch some of the best Australian professionals in action.

Happy golfing.
