We are a not-for-profit community based group that answers to the Australian Songwriters Association. 

Wax Lyrical is for musicians, lyricists and poets who write their own compositions to have a safe place with like-minded people to exhibit their art.

All genre of music is welcome and indeed encouraged. All age groups are welcome (anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult) and indeed encouraged.

We are all volunteers who put together a meeting on the last Wednesday of each month at the South Grafton Bowling and Recreation Club who are supporting us by donating the Club space for us to use as our base.

We can fit 10 performers each week who each sing or read a maximum of 3 songs (12 minutes in total maximum stage time per act). All songs must be original songs, lyrics or poems.

At the end of each meeting, the audience choose a winner for the “Song of the Month”.

The winner receives:

1. $50 voucher from our sponsor – Buckley’s Music Group.
2. An interview with our sponsors FM 103.1 Loving Life and they also get to sing their winning song live on air.
3. A trophy to take home in recognition of their win.
4. An entry into the end of year grand final event where the winner will receive a trophy for the ‘Song of the Year’ and a $250 voucher from our sponsors Buckleys Music Group.

I also need to mention that Elders Real Estate Grafton are also a sponsor of Wax Lyrical, and they take care of printing all our brochures and posters.

Also, a supporter is Original Sound Lounge run by Pam Hatta. OSL come to our meetings seeking out exceptional talent to play on much larger stages and hence getting exposure to an expanded audience.
