Veterans of recent conflicts on the rise in Maclean

An increasing number of veterans from recent conflicts joined the ranks of veterans on parade in Maclean this Anzac Day including an explosive detection dog named Fetch who has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.

While the focus may have been on our Vietnam veterans given this year marks the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War, quite a few serving Army, Navy and Air Force regulars and reservists with links to the Clarence Valley were also greeted by the applause of family and friends and the large crowds that lined the parade route.

On Anzac Day, meeting comrades and discussing old times in the military has the potential to raise some troubling thoughts and feelings. Those in need of assistance can call Open Arms on 1800 011 046 at any time to arrange confidential face-to-face, telephone and online counselling. Veterans and their families can also connect with their local RSL sub-Branch for support.
