The ‘Eagle’ flies for Craig Penman at Yamba

An excellent field competed in the midweek Stableford at Yamba Golf & Country Club on Thursday June 16, with some remarkable scores recorded.

It was a day blessed with very benign conditions. Lovely sunshine and dry fairways made it a pleasure to be on the course.

Craig Penman took full advantage to win A Grade with 43 points. This included an Eagle 2 on the 2nd hole and won the nest which was almost overflowing with balls; in second place was the very consistent Dave Cruden with 41 followed by Luke Luchetti on 40.

37 points was the score of the day in B Grade when all three place getters compiled it; a countback separated them into a win for Tony Burley with Noel Bushell and Danny Quin in the minor placings.

The score of the day saw Rob Watson win C Grade with a massive 44 points. Dave Barnsley had another terrific round of 42 points and Alex Miltiadou brought up the rear on the podium with 35.

On the 3rd Greg Wyllie was closest at 265cm; 9th Reilly Wunderlich 213cm; 10th Peter McGrath 298cm; 12th Dave Barnsley 30cm and 17th Don Schlussler 208cm.

The Pro Pin for 0-14 was not won and Mike Grills hit a great second shot to win the 15-54 prize. 34/14 was the number of points needed to win a ball in the rundown.

Peter Kelly big winner on Saturday

170 golfers competed in a Stableford round on Saturday and Peter Kelly had the best score of the day to win A Grade with 42 points. Alex Holland and Colby Wilkinson both scored 38 and were separated by the countback to be second and third respectively.

In B Grade, Benjamin Major held off Rowdy Niland when both scored 38 points and John Maguire took third place with 35. Club President Tony Moran had his driver working perfectly and secured with winner’s voucher with 39 points. Stuart McDonald (Maclean) was runner up with 36 and Don Schlussler was third with 33.

On the 3rd Laurie Urquhart was closest 107cm; 9th Rob Gimenez 158; 10th Trystan Burns 150cm; 12th Ben Major 66cm 17th.

Michael Hurley 112cm Pro Pin winner in the 0-14 section was Todd Brewer and the 15-54 was not won. The ball rundown extended to 33/16.

Mother’s Day Cup

Due to the copious quantities of rain in recent months, the Mother’s Day Cup was postponed and finally played on Sunday. A very small field in the midst of scores of young people practising for the Combined High Schools golf week had enjoyable day.

The winners of this prestigious trophy for 2022 were Susan Wilson & Bruce Lulham on a countback from Fay & Rob Gimenez.

Nearest to the pins were: 3rd Rob Gimenez; 10th Rob Gimenez; 12th Fiona Smart and Bruce Lulham.

The ball rundown went to 41 and better.
