Sportsman’s Creek paddle and Australia Day fun

On Saturday January 22 we headed to Sportsman’s Creek at Lawrence for a change of scenery.

It was very peaceful and a great location for our trainee sweeps, Desley, Marianne and Bryce to get in some experience in ideal conditions. Well done everyone.

Australia Day we were joined by Clarence Coast Dragon Boat Club and with two full boats headed off from the riverbank at McLennan’s Lane for a paddle around Carrs Island and returning for a yummy breakfast, coffee and brownies. This was then followed with some serious competition – thong throwing, sack races and nibbling an arrowroot biscuit into the shape of Australia. Congratulations to the winners! Thanks to everyone who participated and helped out on the morning.

A big thank you to Clarence Coast for joining with us – its good experience paddling with members from other clubs and sitting in different positions in the boat plus it’s always great to get together to renew acquaintances and meet new members.

We are progressing with regatta plans for our event on February 18-19. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us.

We are now back at the rowing club for our Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions at 5.45am and Saturday session is from Corcoran boat ramp 7.45am. Numbers have been extremely good – with weekday morning sessions very popular due to the heat and unpredictable weather in the afternoons.
