RFS Charity Day at GDSC

On Saturday January 30, GDSC hosted a charity day to raise funds for Trenayr RFS. We enjoyed near perfect weather and had a full contingent of 56 bowlers using Green No 1, as Green No 2 is being refurbished.

Winners on the day were Marg Toovey, Mary Elliott, Belinda and Robyn Martin whilst the runners up were James and Paul Johnston, Josh Rogan and Mya Smith. Spider winner was Jack Pavlovic who received an engraved trophy. Congratulations to all.

Many of our bowlers donated monies and a big thanks to GDSC for their generous support as always, they supplied raffle goods and topped up the funds raised. A big thanks to the players I had to phone to ask to stand down as we were over committed, namely Mike Hall, Sue Jacquin and Neal Holt. Also, many thanks to co organisers Harold Gibson and Toni Shorten for arranging the players and to Gerry Glass, Sue Jacquin and Mike and Vera Hall for their help. The Men’s and Women’s Bowls Clubs cover costs of the BBQ to add to funds raeied.

The day was a financial success with a cheque going to Trenayr RFS for $1,750. We intend to hold the charity day again on Australia Day next year, so it does not clash with other bowls events.

TNT is due to start on February 23 as the second green refurbishment should be finalised by then.
