Survivors and Carers Afternoon Tea

Relay The Clarence Valley Way this November

Cancer Council is acutely aware just how excited the Clarence Valley community is when it comes to their Relay For Life.

Sadly, this year due to COVID-19 we are unable to hold the Grafton Relay For Life in its usual format. Although The Relay Committee has been applying their usual indomitable spirit working long and hard to present a uniquely different event which will run from Saturday, November 7 to Saturday, November 14.

This exciting virtual week-long celebration called “Relay The Clarence Valley Way 2020” will begin online with the traditional opening ceremony presented by a special guest greeting the participants, followed by the traditional welcome to country including a message from the chair and Cancer Council. The new format will include all your favourite parts of Relay.

Sunday 8 is an opportunity to meet your local Survivors and Carers when they will be presented with pins, ribbons, a purple shirt, sashes, a plant and baked goodies.

Each day will present something magical and uniquely different although the much-loved Opening and Closing Ceremony will appear much the same, albeit online.

On Tuesday 10, we’ll be encouraging businesses to hold a purple workplace fundraiser, requesting staff dress in purple for the day as well as dressing their shop fronts in purple to assist Cancer Council raise vital funds needed to continue to provide essential support services to the Clarence Valley community. Services like the free Transport to Treatment Service assisting local people get to and from appointments as well as free financial and legal assistance to local patients, to name but a few.

We’ll also be asking schools to engage the students in purple activities, not forgetting ‘Miss Relay’ when we ask guys with a sense of humour to get in touch with their feminine side.
