An enchanting and mesmerising journey which showcases the superb talent, skill and artistry of local musicians and performers, ‘An Afternoon at the Proms’ is one of the Clarence Valley’s most popular and highly anticipated annual events.

Proudly presented by the Clarence Valley Orchestra and Chorus, and under the experienced and dedicated leadership and guidance of renowned conductor Greg Butcher, An Afternoon at the Proms encompasses a rich variety of classical favourites by Mozart, Stravinsky, Elgar and Strauss.

This year will also be the first time the concert will be able to go ahead since 2019, after the devastating Covid-19 pandemic forced its postponement in 2020 and 2021.

Describing the premier event as an experience like no other, violinist Sarah Nicholls, who has been a member of the Clarence Valley Orchestra for several years, told the Clarence Valley Independent she is eagerly looking forward to performing next weekend.

“It just amazes me, to be a part of such an incredible group of musicians from all walks of life and different backgrounds, and to come together and perform, and present such a unique experience to the audience, it’s very special,” she said humbly.

“The way Greg has the vision of how the performance will come together, and how he directs us and constantly gets the best out of us with his skill and talent, it’s something to behold.

“If you have never been to a classical concert before, I encourage you come along to An Afternoon at the Proms, because it will be unlike anything else you will see.”

The musical program will also feature stunning vocal performances by beautiful songstress Lisa Butcher and demonstrate the extraordinary precision and creativity of pianist Simon Tedeschi and clarinettist Peter Morgan, who will perform Rhapsody in Blue and Clarinet Concerto in A Major – Adagio, respectively.

“After we were not able to perform the concert last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I think we’re all happy to have the opportunity to come back together and perform alongside each other once again,” Mr Morgan said.

“I’m looking forward to the performance, and I’m sure the audience will be too.”
