Orchestrating an island tour

They are well-loved and admired throughout the Northern Rivers region, but next month, the Clarence Valley Orchestra will travel abroad for the first time to share their mesmerising talents and musical abilities with new audiences, and perform on an island which has never hosted a 40-piece orchestra before.

Clarence Valley Orchestra Conductor Greg Butcher revealed members are very excited ahead of their upcoming concert tour to Norfolk Island which will run between April 13-18, and said it will be a unique opportunity for the orchestra to spread its success following many memorable performances held in Grafton’s Saraton Theatre and regional areas of NSW throughout the last eight years.

Mr Butcher said while the concerts will involve an orchestra which is slightly reduced in size, it will be a fantastic opportunity to spread the cultural exchange of the Clarence Valley to Norfolk Island, for not only the players, but also for communities on the island who have never before experienced or heard the sound of a full live orchestra.

Performances on Norfolk Island will involve a special High Tea on April 16, which will be set in the grounds of the boutique waterfront property Forrester Court and allow audiences the chance to listen to the orchestra during an afternoon of fine food and dancing, with music from the 1940s Glen Miller era to the 1980s disco era, and anything in between.

The Clarence Valley Orchestra will also perform at a family fundraising concert in Rawson Hall to celebrate the Rotary Club of Norfolk Island’s 50th Anniversary.

Featuring music from popular films including Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter, and the Sound of Music, the Clarence Valley Orchestra will also perform alongside a couple of island groups during their tour abroad.
