Local councils, community groups and not-for-profit organisations in bushfire impacted areas have until November 16 to apply for their share of $25 million to promote community well-being, social recovery and future disaster resilience.
Support for the vast bushfire recovery was extended in September with Stream 2 of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF) providing $25 million for community recovery and preparedness initiatives.
Resilience NSW Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said funding of $20,000 to $300,000 is now available for eligible projects.
“Community groups, councils, joint organisations, NGOs and not-for-profits, I urge you to submit your applications at www.emergency.nsw.gov.au before midday 16 November,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
“You know best what your communities need to help them achieve recovery and strengthen resilience. These grants aim to help provide the necessary support to empower communities across NSW to drive local, community-led recovery and preparedness initiatives in their own backyards.
“Each bushfire impacted community is at a different point on their journey to recovery and has a different set of needs, so I’m looking forward to a diversity of projects coming to fruition.”
Applications for Stream 1 BCRRF funding closed on 27 October and will be distributed to eligible councils, providing $100,000 or $250,000 grants for to support locally led social recovery activities.
This brings the total BCRRF to over $35 million jointly funded by the Commonwealth and NSW Governments under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and is in addition to measures supported through the National Bushfire Recovery Fund. The BCRRF is administered by Resilience NSW.
The NSW Government’s $250 million Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund is also open for applications. The program supports infrastructure, social, business and environmental initiatives that retain and create new jobs, build resilience and increase preparedness for future bushfire seasons. Grants between $200,000 and $20 million are available across 47 regional NSW Local Government Areas. Applications close at 2pm on Friday 11 December.
