Mareeba’s Intergenerational Program

cvi   In today’s world there is often little intergenerational contact. However at Mareeba Aged Care they know a vibrant care community involves regular contact between younger and older generations. “Our Intergenerational Program is extremely successful,” said Megan Carroll who spear-heads the program for Mareeba Aged Care’s Leisure and Lifestyle team. “Regular contact between our residents and students is so beneficial for all who are involved.” In our modern world, families are often spread across different regions and intergenerational contact is lost. Mareeba Aged Care already has strong links with Chatsworth Island Primary School, Gulmarrad Primary School and Maclean’s Cubby Pre-school. “Our connections with local pre-school, primary school and high-school students is so rewarding for all involved,” said Megan. “And, I am really excited about the possibilities as we engage with school projects,” she said. Mareeba’s own mini-bus is available and suitable for transporting student groups to Mareeba. “Residents in the Dementia Unit are also engaging with younger children in such a wonderful way. It’s amazingly successful,” Megan said.
