Maclean Women’s Bowls
A full green of players enjoyed the beautiful weather at Maclean Women’s Bowling Club on Tuesday May 3. A visitor from Melbourne, Judy Casey, was warmly welcomed.
As it was Pennant Appreciation Day some fun was had, starting off with a Ditch to Ditch competition which was won by Lee Rae and Lorraine Connor who each received a prize. During the game players were required to swap bowls with their opponent on nominated ends and prizes were awarded for touchers, the winners being Wendy Haselum, Coral Shannon, Fay Cutting, Bev Owen and Gloria Connor. At lunch, president Margaret thanked the members who played social bowls and kept the club going during the Pennants, with special mention of Leone Bodycote and her band of helpers who organised lunch for visiting players. Everyone then shared a beautiful cake and a general meeting followed.
The president spoke of the importance of wearing approved bowls shoes, especially when playing at other clubs. Notices about the AGM on Tuesday June 28 at 1pm were distributed and nomination forms are available. The annual fee of $5 is now due and should be handed to the secretary in an envelope with the member’s name on it by Tuesday May 31. The full bowling membership fee should be paid to the office by mid June. More entries are needed for the Club Championship Triples which is due to start on Thursday June 16 with entries closing at noon on Friday June 3. If there are not enough entries, the event will be cancelled. There are new flyers in the folder in the locker room for tournaments at Grafton, Iluka, Old Bar and Nambucca.
