In Wednesday afternoons Skins event Paul O’Halloran backed up by winning again with five skins including a four pointer. Doug Hudson and Steve Smith both had three skins and Steve managed a four pointer as well.
Thursdays Single Stableford was won by the consistent Leigh Barrington with a terrific round of 42 points. Steve Smith was the runner up on 40 points and was happy about taking some winnings from Mick Emmanuel. NTPs went to Paul Moore on the 2nd, Steve Smith the 7th, Robert Brett, a visitor from North Ryde, took the 11th and Luke Many the 17th. Luke also took third place with 37 points. Pro balls went down to 33 points. Visitors came from North Ryde, Palm Meadows, Teven, Tallebudgera, Burrum, Village Links and Emerald Lakes.
Maclean continues to attract a lot of visitors because the course is in absolutely splendid condition, a real credit to our hard working greens staff and volunteers.
Saturday saw the qualifying round for the Clarke O’Keeffe Shield and was generously sponsored once again by the two Johns. A large field played in this prestigious 4BBB.
The winners with a great round of 47 points, 22 on the front and 25 on the back were Craig Slater and Phil McGuire who combined well to take a well earned win. Michael McGowan and Bruce Johnston were the runners up with 44 points. NTPs went to Wayne Mackaway on the 2nd, John Ryan the 7th, Tony Johnson the 11th and Craig Slater the 17th. The Thistle Hole was won by Mark Andrew. The pro ball rundown went to 41 points on a countback. Visitors attended from Murwillumbah, Burleigh and Pacific Golf Clubs with the busload from Burleigh enjoying the challenge and having a good time.
The top eight teams to qualify for the playoff for the Clarke O’Keeffe Shield in order were Craig Slater & Phil McGuire; Michael McGowan & Bruce Johnston; Michael & Kayne Endean; Chris Moorhead & Rod Smith; John Porter & Greg Saul; Denis Runge & Rick Brenton; Barry Connelly & Wayne Mackaway and Ted Harvey & Theo Sheppard. These teams must complete their first round by the end of play on Saturday, June 11th.
