Maclean Men’s Bowls

There was only the final of Club Championship Super Vets pairs played on Wednesday afternoon of last week. No other Championships were played last weekend as we entertained our visitors from Pottsville and eleven of our players were on District representative duties at Kingscliff on Sunday. The Super Vets Pairs final was between the pairings of Barry Ryan and Lex Essex against John Currie and Terry Radford. John and Terry opened the scoring with a five on the first end but from then on Barry and Lex only gave away five single shots for the remainder of the match. John and Terry put their bowls away at the end of 20 ends with Barry and Lex leading by 25 shots to ten. Congratulations to Barry and Lex and a well done on making the final to John and Terry. No championships have been posted for this weekend as some players are engaged in the tournament at Yamba. We are down to the quarter-finals of the Mixed Pairs and the Mixed Handicap Singles, the draw has been done and is on the board. However, individual handicaps have not been allotted as yet. The trip away for Terry’s travelling bowlers is this Thursday October 22 to Tugun on the Gold Coast. Bus departs our club at 7.30am on the day. Bowlers take note, lists are on the board for our remaining two tournaments for this year. The ‘Mareeba Aged Care’ Mixed Mufti Triples on Saturday October 30 and our ‘XXXX Gold’ Classic 2-bowl Triples on Saturday November 21. Get your teams in ASAP as these are filling quickly. Our bowlers representing our District did themselves proud at Kingscliff last Sunday when our District won both the Shield and Cup for this year against strong opposition from the other two Districts in the Zone.
