In the past week there were four matches of Club Mixed Handicap Singles and the remaining semi-final match of Club Minor Pairs completed. This Sunday, August 14 the Zone 1 play-offs’ for Singles and Pairs are being held at Brunswick Heads in the Tweed/Byron District. Maclean players representing our Clarence River District are: Open State Singles – Warren McDonald who is against Josh Greenhaigh (Brunswick Heads – Tweed/Byron District) in the first up morning match; Senior Singles – Gary Scott who is also first up against K. Liddington (Kingscliff – Tweed/Byron District). Presidents Reserve Pairs – Steve Fuller and Ross Murphy against J. Mills and A. Drooger (South Lismore – Northern Rivers District). The winners of these matches will play the final against the other District Champions who drew the bye in the first round. On this Saturday week (August 20) our District section of the State Champion-of-Club Champions’ will be held at South Grafton Services Club. The first round sees (yours truly) Doug Starr against Peter Forrester the Yamba Champion in the singles and in the pairs we have our Kevin Johnson and Trevor Govey against Chris Newstead and Louis Wyse of Iluka.
