Iluka Veterans golf – Round 8 of Championships

The September 3 event was the monthly medal Stroke, combined with the 8th Round of the Veterans Club Championship, played in wonderful spring conditions on a golf course to match. Great to see former greenkeeper and Life Member, Gordon Farrell, out on the course getting all the sprinkler heads in top shape and the pumps working again to counter the dry spell.

The day was sponsored by Jim Hurley, who always offers extra trophies to add to the competition, this time offering up two valuable Australia Road Atlas books.

The Iluka Vets were a little short staffed on the day with our regular captain, Jim Lowe, away on holidays and our president, Geoffrey Prentice, laid up resting after a vehicle trauma leaving him sore and bruised. We are happy to add that Geoffrey is making good progress and will be back to earbash us all again soon.

The Iluka Vets made a special day of it, mainly to acknowledge the generous support offered by Jim Hurley for so many years. The shotgun start was preceded with a morning tea, followed up with a lunch. Thanks go to the ladies, Ann Dean and Chrissy Wissink, for their wonderful effort in serving up the morning tea and lunch which proved to be a long day for them indeed.
