The adoptions are still going well for both the cats and the dogs and for the first time we are down to under 30 dogs and about 45 cats. The adoption and rescue fingers are from Jan 1, 2020 to present, as that is our financial year. If you look at it from the Australian traditional financial year, July 1, 2019 then our year to date figures show a total of 18 cats rescued and 112 dogs = 130, and 40 cats adopted and 141 dogs = 181 animals rehomed.
The Clarence Valley Pound numbers published on May 18, do not say how many were rescued but in the same period 159 animals were rehomed which is also great news.
In total in the Clarence Valley 340 abandoned and surrendered animals found homes.
Our hope is one day we will officially be able to work together helping each other. The Clarence Valley Council where we pay our rates does not support us while every other Council in NSW is quite happy for us to help rehome their animals. We only take those we know we have space and the capacity to care. It is sad that we are unable to work with our own animal impounding facility to save animals lives. We save the council at least $300,000 a year as that is what it costs us to operate as seen in our audited financials on the ACNC Database.
We urgently need more volunteers!
We urgently need volunteers and it is easy to be socially distanced from others here as we are working with animals. We have ensured that the tasks are split up into single areas for each person. We urgently need help especially with the dogs, especially this weekend. Donations are drying up as people pull in their belts understandably to prepare for whatever is around the corner. We are full to the brim, although we have acreage, we do not have the financial resources or the volunteers to support building more pens etc. It is just so sad.
Please spread the word as we really do need your help! Either through PayPal using our email address happypawshaven@bigpond.com or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc. All donations over $2 are tax deductible! Thank you. We are an ACNC endorsed registered charity! Our ABN is 79928920087, CFN 23496
If anyone who is in Grafton or nearby, we really need help urgently! If you could help by asking if anyone is able to volunteer even just 3-4 hours on one day a week would be great! Maybe animal lovers who do not have a family nearby, could come and spend time helping us with the animals at Happy Paws Haven. Any time from NOW would be wonderful. We are open seven days a week as usual from 0930 to 1530, our hours are slightly shorter during winter as we put the animals to bed and rug the grey hounds.
We are as always looking for volunteers who are passionate about animals! Please could you help us to find some more volunteers. Clarence Valley Volunteering is trying to assist us too! We urgently need additional volunteers to help us care for the animals, walk the dogs, groom the cats and to share their love. Dress in your oldest clothes, jeans and a T-shirt is good, with work boots or sneakers, bring a snack and a drink! Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory!
We need people to help with office data entry skills and admin skills. We need people to help with our fund raisers for the love animals.
There are all sorts of things that need to be done….
And every bit of help counts! Come and visit to see what we do!
Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care!
Happy Paws Haven Volunteers and members meeting
Due to the virus and the current conditions we have postponed all future meetings for the foreseeable future. We are however exploring specialist meeting software that caters for voting so that we can hold our meetings remotely in each of our homes.
Rescues and Surrenders
We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know! We had one new surrender this week. Our restrictions currently are due to vet availability for the non-urgent work such as desexing
Now for the cats and kittens for adoption this week:
We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a small percentage having developed any illness because of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is 251000043
My name is Ervin, I was dumped in a box with 10 other kittens and our mother, Erica, outside someone’s home. I had lots of brothers and sisters and the person who found us all just could not afford to us in and care for us, so we went into foster care. We had a lovely time playing together with mum teaching us how to be cats. Now we are all together without mum playing and living with other young cats of our own age. I have had an operation and with two others from the kitten house and now we are ready to find a wonderful loving home, all our friends will be having an operation soon. We are all loving friendly affectionate young teenage cats between 6-8 months old waiting for a loving home. (900079000382714)
Torri and her three siblings came at the same time as Erica and her family. They were found out near Clarence Way not far from a creek in the bush, they were young and friendly not at all wild. They were picked up put in a box and left at our gate with the hope we would find them before the dogs or the eagles. They are only slightly younger than Erik and his family. All are black with little tiny tufts of white in their ears or their chest or under their chin (except for Toshi). They are all very friendly affectionate young cats. They are all desexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, regularly wormed, and de-flead ready for their new homes. (900079000382715)
Kirk came to us with his mother and four siblings early in 2017. His mother was found on a vacant property with no form of identification and no one knowing where she came from, so we called her kinky as she had a kink in her tail and some of the offspring do too. They were in foster care for some time and due to this they are all extra friendly. Kirk is a beautiful brown tabby and white teenager who has come from a lovely family. He is extremely affectionate gentle loving playful young cat who has been desexed, vaccinated and micro-chipped ready for his new home. My microchip: 991003000002512.
Now for the Dogs for Adoption for this week:
We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043
Vinnie and Kevin arrived from Casino, their owner and trainer is elderly and has now retired so to help him out we volunteered to take two of his beautiful boys. Like all greyhounds they love to have a play and zoom first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon. In between they prop and stop becoming couch potatoes. These two young dogs are very well behaved, quiet, affectionate, gentle loving dogs. They would be very suitable as a companion to anyone regardless of their age and wellbeing. They are great pets for anyone with a bad back as you do not need to bend down to groom them give them a stroke or a gentle pat. As ex-racing dogs I would not trust them with small dogs or cat etc. They love being around humans and are low maintenance dogs as they do not require much exercise. They have been desexed, immunised and have a micro-chip. They also have been wormed and treated for all our common parasites. (956000008687486)
Jedro is a very exuberant loyal young goofball, we think he is a boxer mastiff ridgeback cross who wants to be with someone or another dog most of the time. He loves to play and needs training as he has no idea at all. He is loves people of all ages including school age kids, he is also good with other dogs. His owner really did not want to give him up at all, but the landlord said he had to go as he did not have permission to have a larger dog. He is a typical goofy large breed pup, all arms, and legs all over the place and has no idea where to put them most of the time. He is chipped, vaccinated, desexed and treated for fleas, worms, ticks, mites, heart worm and intestinal worms. (991003000593916)
Jayda came to us as she had been left with family as the owner could not have her with her due to her work hours. The family already had another dog which took exception to Jayda, so they had to find her somewhere else to go. She is a family friendly dog, gets on with other dogs particularly male dogs. She can be dominant with some female dogs, but she is generally fine. Like all of us there is an exception to the rule. She loves humans, being in our company and is fine with older children. She has been desexed, chipped and vaccinated ready for her new home. She is a gentle loving dog. (982000356795986)
