Grafton Triples Carnival….24 teams do battle at the

Saturday and Sunday November 26 & 27 finally saw the staging of the Grafton Mens Bowling Club triples carnival which had be postponed in September due to inclement weather.

Teams participating, were from Grafton & South Grafton Bowling Clubs, plus teams from Yamba, Iluka and even two visiting teams from Uralla…Great to see you boys.

The format for the weekend would be five games of 18 ends, with each team receiving 20 points for each win, plus one point for every end won. If a tie eventuated, then margins would determine the placings.

After two days great competition and camaraderie between great mates, there were twelve teams who went home with cash in their wallets.

The five Round prizes were won by the following teams:

Round 1 – Iluka (Phil Rice Skip).

Round 2 – Rod Shorten, Lee Bond & Greg Taylor (Grafton Services).

Round 3 – Barry Elder, Jamie Pye & Barry Williams (Grafton Services).

Round 4 – Jamie Blanchard, Garry Gumbleton, John O’Shea (Composite)

Round 5 – Des Clarke, Brian Napper, Tony Lickiss (Grafton Services).

The six teams to figure as place getters were as follows:

6th place – Ivan Beverley, Gary Harrison, Allan Knox (Skip).

5th place – Tracey Genner, Marty Wood, Ian Parker (Skip).

4th place – Cliff Vag, Grahame Meaney, Peter Retallack (Skip).

3rd place – Bob Tierney, Craig Dalton, Ken Landrigan (Skip).

2nd place – Peter Gillespie, Brian Hall, Tom McDonald (Skip).

1st place – Rob  Power, Ron Orr, Ian Knox (Skip).

Congratulations to all the place getters, and inparticular our winners Rob, Ron & Ian who pocketed $1000 each for their efforts…not bad for two days bowls.

Of course, we must thank our very generous sponsors for this carnival, the GDSC, Westlawn Insurance, and Ken Casson Motors as well as Bowls Australia. Without your support we simply can’t hold these carnivals and we thank you very much indeed.
