Last Saturday saw Grafton Rifle Club gather with enthusiasm and looking forward to competing from the 700-yard distance.
Weather conditions were similar to the previous week with the flags hanging down the flag poles as competitors prepared to fire their first stage, however, a light breeze commenced soon after firing started.
The younger brigade turned the tables on the ‘oldies’ with ‘Mr Consistent’ Peter Brown scoring a 49.5/50 and followed this up with a 50/50 in the Target Rifle to take the Off-Rifle trophy. With his handicap of 2.0 points added, Peter took the Handicap aggregate as well. Nick Abrahall also shot well with scores of 48.7 and 49.5, giving him an Off-Rifle aggregate of 97.12 to be well ahead of the field.
Dave Grundy had a crack at the ‘F’ Class after he completed his Target Rifle stages, putting together a 57/60 followed by a 55, to give him an Off-Rifle aggregate of 112 with six super centrals. With his handicap of 9.5 added, Dave topped the day with an aggregate of 121.5.
The ‘Hunter’ Class competition was a very close affair with Trevor Lascelles scoring a possible 50/50 in his second stage to pair with his 48/50 with his first stage score of 48/50, giving him an Off-Rifle aggregate of 98.6. Both Tony McKenna and Colin Wigg are yet to be given a handicap.
Tony McKenna also competed in the ‘F’ Class Open and put together a pair of 56s/60 to give him an Off-Rifle aggregate of 112. With his handicap of 8 points added, Tony achieved a perfect score.
