Grafton Branch United Hospital Auxiliary

October is here and what a busy month it is for our Auxiliary members, starting with a very generous offer from The Bent Bridge Brewing Company to donate the proceeds from their Trivia night at the Clocktower Hotel last Saturday to the Grafton UHA. It was a great night, we booked two tables of our members and enjoyed testing our knowledge, even though we were no threat to the winning teams.

A big thank you to Bent Bridge Brewing for choosing the Grafton UHA to donate to, and to those who supported this event, we are very grateful to receive your $2000 donation. Thank you, Kieran McAndrew, Mick Harris, Matthew Green, Luke Morrow & Glen McClymont the Directors of Bent Bridge Brewing, local guys who have developed a very popular beer and business and still had time to run a fun night and support our Grafton Hospital.

On Thursday 20 our Clothing & Collectable Shop in Pound Street will celebrate its 1st anniversary. Can’t believe we have been there that long….without the help of our president Kerrie DiMattia and our treasurer Gwen McLennan this shop would not have opened.

Our shop co-ordinator Carol Bailey made these comments in the lead up to our 1st Anniversary, “Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers for making the shop success it is today, we love welcoming our regular customers as well as new customers and visitors. We receive numerous comments about the variety of items we have, we are lucky to receive such good quality donations. With the support of the community, visitors and the willingness of our volunteers we look forward to our next twelve months being an even bigger success”.

Our Christmas morning tea plans are in progress and will have further news on that after this month’s meeting at the GDSC on October 26 at 1.30pm. New members and enquires are most welcome to attend.

Our Christmas morning tea raffle commenced last week, so keep an eye out at the shopping centres for our ladies. The prizes are amazing, thanks to the business who donated -Woolworths, Coles, Jagged Edge Hairdressing, Touch of Paradise, Crown Hotel and Village Green Hotel.

Also pleased to announce we have recently purchase two electronic transport beds and mattresses valued at $12,908 for the Grafton Hospital and have ordered a resuscitate bed valued at $13,000 which should be here soon. We will be looking forward to purchasing more items from the Hospital ‘wish list’. Thanks to the community support from our recent fashion parade, trivia night and Clothing & Collectable Shop.

Ethel Hancock – Life Member and member of Grafton UHA for 39 years.

One of our much-loved members Ethel Hancock is moving to the Gold Coast to be closer to her family, she will be missed by all of us. During her 39 years with the Grafton UHA, Ethel was a very dedicated worker, held a variety of executive positions including Vice President and a well deserving Life Member.  Ethel was also a strong supporter of the Grafton Branch changing from Pink Ladies to Lavender Ladies in honour of our beautiful Jacaranda City. A big influence on many of the newer ladies including myself offering lots of guidance, advice and a helping hand always with a smile and friendship. We wish Ethel and Don all the best in their new venture and hope they enjoy lots of precious time with the family.
