Coverage of the 2024 Local Government Elections will begin in the coming weeks and the Clarence Valley Independent is reaching out to all candidates to be involved.

Nine Clarence Valley Councillors will be elected to steer the region for the next four years and the CV Independent will be publishing candidate profiles after nominations close, followed by a series of questions and answers with candidates.

Candidate nominations open on Monday, August 5, and close at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 14.

The election of Councillors across 126 of the states’ 128 Local Government Areas LGA’s on September 14, 2024, will be conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission.

Voting is compulsory for enrolled adults in the NSW Local Government election, the penalty for not voting in NSW is currently $55.

When this week’s deadline was reached there were 11 candidates registered with the NSW Electoral Commission.

Currently the CV Independent has received profiles from Cristie Yager, Des Schroder, Greg Clancy, Andrew Baker, James Allen, and Steve Pickering.

This is a great opportunity for candidates to convey their aims and objectives as a councillor to the residents who will elect them.

The CV Independent is encouraging all candidates to send a 350 word profile, photo, and contact details to journalistyamba@cvnews.com.au before August 9, to be part of our coverage in the lead up to the Local Government Election.
