GDSC Westlawn Golf

Before I start the normal news I have some sad news, it was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing last week of one of our founding fathers and Life members, Stan Attewell. Like me a lot of the present members of Westlawn would not have heard of Stan, but he was one of the driving forces behind the Club in the early years and from what I have been told by older members it was Stan we all have to thank for the well placed trees that often grab our wayward shots. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Considering it was the start of daylight saving and the long week-end a good field of 48 players took to the fairways to contest the Steve and Allan Carnley sponsored monthly medal Stroke event. There were some good scores on the day and the best went to Medal winner Rip Miller with a fine 33 nett, closely followed Rod Jackson, Paul Sutton, John Panton and Peter Taaffe all on 33 ½ nett and Tom Gillett on 34 and another 6 players 35 nett. All I can say is the handicapper seems to have his job down pat. There were a total of six Waterboys that I heard about from Sunday, Peter Curd on the 7th, Garry Bush on the 3rd,Peter Chessell on the 4th,R Stevens on the 9th and Terry Ord on the 1st and 9th, welcome to the club gentlemen it is nice to see you are all taking out extra memberships. It was also bought to my attention that one of the Wooli boys had an air swing on the 6th tee on Sunday, I am not sure which one it was but I think it might have something to do with a little tree. Next Sunday is a single Stableford event for the Time honoured Norm Henwood Memorial Day, sponsored by the Henwood families. Starters will be G Jackson and J Leonard with P Curd and D Clark to handle the results. Always a great day so get your names in now. Sunday 18th October will be a 4BBB Stableford event at Westlawn. Starters will be P Taaffe and G Duffy with P Curd and one to handle the results. Please note this is a change to the programme book. Dave Lynch
