Firefighters encourage locals to book free safety visits

Clarence Valley residents are being encouraged to book a free safety visit through the Fire and Rescue NSW website to ensure their smoke alarms are located in a suitable area, are working properly, and to have them installed where necessary.

During the past week, Grafton Fire and Rescue 306 Station Captain Garry Reardon and Grafton Fire and Rescue 306 Station Deputy Captain Chris Rumpf visited a number of local properties to inspect and install smoke alarms, replace long-life batteries, and offer personalised fire safety advice to residents including the safe and effective use of fire blankets and fire extinguishers, and how to store them safely.

Deputy Captain Rumpf said it’s important all homes are fitted with working smoke alarms.

“They save lives,” he said.

“Our job is to ensure everyone in our community is safe in their own home.

“If you haven’t had a safety visit, we encourage you to book one at online at https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/page.php?id=9316.”

A safety visit can help residents reduce the risk of an accidental fire occurring in their home while identifying the safest escape route.

All safety visits are free, and firefighters will install smoke alarms and replace batteries at no cost to the homeowner.
