Everything’s ready

The World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical Christian get-together. It is run under the motto Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action and is celebrated each year in over 170 countries on the first Friday in March.

The movement aims to bring together people of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.

The host country this year is Slovenia and the theme is “Come – Everything is Ready”. The invitation is based on the parable that Jesus told about a certain man who invited many guests to a great dinner he was hosting. But they all made excuses – “I’ve just bought some oxen and I want to plough my paddock” said one; “I’ve just got married” said another. (What an excuse!)

So he invited anybody who wanted to come – “the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame”, Luke says. A great crowd gathered, but there was still room for more.

The World Day of Prayer will be held this year on Friday March 1 in the Uniting Church, Angourie Road Yamba at 10am. Everybody is invited to a joyous morning of music, worship and readings, followed by morning tea and a time of fellowship together – men too! There’s still room, and you’ll be glad you came.
