Disappearing library space!

Ed,

So, according to ‘Option A’ (CVI 23/11/22) the twenty or so year old Treelands Drive Community Centre (TDCC) is to be demolished to make way for a new centre with a much larger library.

Demolition rather than renovation didn’t add up for a number of people, but the worst was still to come. In a business paper presented to Council at the November meeting the 392 square metre (sqm) new library is to be REDUCED in size by 361 sqm meaning that we lose a functioning (if leaking and cramped) building for a shoebox sized library of 31.9 sqm! For real.

But it gets worse. The acoustic and thermal glass is to be replaced by less expensive glass (I’m sure the neighbours will be impressed that noise suppression is no longer relevant), the commercial kitchen which would be a requirement if this venue actually is to be an evacuation centre, is to be downgraded to just a community kitchen and the garden and bike shed is to be deleted.

All this AND we lose the Wooli St venue! Really?
