Members of the Grafton Branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary (GBUHA) were honoured to welcome more than 100 guests to their Christmas Morning Tea, held at the Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) on December 6.

Amidst the seasonal frivolity and joviality of the occasion, President of the GBUHA Kerrie DiMattia revealed she was “super excited” to see so many smiling faces in attendance, and graciously extended her appreciation for the continuous support the local organisation receives each year while raising funds to assist Grafton Base Hospital (GBH) in purchasing specialist medical equipment.

“We (GBUHA) work exceptionally hard to help our community, and we thank everyone for turning up today,” she said.

Clarence Health Services General Manager Dan Madden and Director of Nursing and Midwifery at GBH Sharon Wright also joined in the Christmas celebrations last week, with Mr Madden taking the opportunity to thank the GBUHA for their ongoing fundraising efforts, while acknowledging the tremendous efforts of Judy Irving, who was presented with a GBUHA Life Membership Award in recognition of her 30 years of service to her local community.

Describing herself as very surprised to receive the award, Mrs Irving said she enjoys her work with the GBUHA, adding it would be “nice to see a few more faces” as she subtly encouraged others to join.

While guests enjoyed tea and coffee, along with a delicious assortment of homemade goodies, tickets were diligently checked as raffle and tombola prizes generously donated by local businesses were handed out.

Following the Christmas Morning Tea, members of the GBUHA were delighted to announce $5800 was raised from the event and extended a special thank you to the Wooli Hotel Social Club for their kind donation of $500.

Along with Mrs Irving, Ms DiMattia is also encouraging Clarence Valley residents to become members of the GBUHA.

“The companionships and friendships you will make, they will last forever,” she said.

“All of our members do a fantastic job, and new members are always welcome.”

Anyone interested in joining the GBUHA is invited to visit the GBUHA Op Shop, located at 107 Pound Street, Grafton.

Opening hours are 9:30am -3:30pm, Tuesday to Friday, and between 9:30am – 12pm on Saturdays.
