Carol Miller “two times” Yamba Nine-Hole Champion

There was great excitement last Wednesday when the Yamba Ladies Champion Nine-Holer trophy for 2023 was awarded to Carol Miller for the second consecutive year.

In what was a closely fought affair, Prue McLaughlin was awarded runner up. In the daily Nine-Hole competition held last week, Prue was the winner (20pts) in a field of 12. Fantastic score, Prue!

The NTP was won by Stephany Moreton. Congratulations ladies.

Last Wednesday, the ladies were delighted to be introduced to the new Yamba Ladies Shootout trophy which has been generously donated by Suzanne Scott and Moira Morrow. The Ladies’ Committee was thrilled that Moira and Suzanne were keen to sponsor the annual Shootout event following on from the Macqueen family’s generosity which had been ongoing for 20 years. This year’s event will be held over three partner rounds: * August 23 – 4BBB; * August 25 – Ambrose and * August 30 – Foursomes.

Wednesday’s Single Stableford round had 56 players and conditions were fabulous. It was wonderful to see Moira socialising with our ladies after her extended absence and it was great to welcome back regular ‘visitors’ Prue Webb (Barwon Heads), Kerri Greig (Beaconhills) and Reina Sarah (Lonsdale) as well as Pauline Williamson (Ballarat) and Janice Vasic (Port Kembla).

Results

Div 1 winner was Suzanne Scott (37pts c/b) who came home just ahead of Val Pate (37pts).

Div 2 winner, Robyn Brockwell (41pts), had the best score of the day and Joan Berry (36pts) was the r/up.

Colleen Bamback (34pts) won Div 3 and Jacky Penfold (32pts) followed closely.

Our NTP sponsors and winners were Sassafras 3rd – Janine Zietsch; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Joan Berry; SeaFire Restaurant 9th (2nd) voucher – Trish McDermid; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – Janelle Carpenter; Leonie May Millinery 10th (2nd) – Joan Berry; The Shoe Boutique 12th – Janette Blair; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – Jill Brown and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Reina Sarah. Balls were awarded to 32pts.

Last Saturday’s competition was played in perfect conditions. In a field of five players, it was Kylie Lowe (33pts) who won while Lonsdale visitor, Leigh-Anne Johnson, won the NTP.

With no ladies’ events being held this week due to the Veteran’s Week of Golf, Wednesday 23 and Friday 25, Shootout events will be the next in our golfing calendar. Good luck to everyone involved.
