BreastScreen NSW North Coast partners with Grafton radiology clinic to deliver screening program

Women aged 50-74 are now able to access their free two-yearly breast screen at Clarence Valley Imaging, thanks to a new partnership between the Grafton based imaging service and BreastScreen NSW North Coast.

For a limited time from now until November 2023, breast screening will be available in the clinic, located at 137 Fitzroy Street, Grafton.

Emma Cronin, Acting Director of BreastScreen NSW North Coast, says a regular breast screen is one of the most important things women can do for their health.

“Detecting breast cancer early increases your chance of survival while reducing the likelihood of invasive treatment, such as mastectomy or chemotherapy,” Ms Cronin said.

“Around 90 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history. This is why breast cancer screening is so important for all eligible women.”

Ms Cronin says having this partnership with Clarence Valley Imaging in Grafton makes it easier for women to attend their recommended two-yearly screening.

“Bringing these vital services to Grafton means more local women can be screened. Life gets busy and we want women to make their health a priority.

“I encourage local women not to wait for the mobile van to arrive to book in their free breast screen, call 13 20 50 and have your free breast screen in the clinic.”

An appointment with BreastScreen NSW is free, takes less than 20 minutes and no doctor’s referral is needed.

  • All women are invited by BreastScreen NSW to screen every two years from age 50.
  • Any woman with a family history of breast cancer should discuss their specific needs with their GP.
  • Anyone with breast symptoms should contact their GP or health worker without delay.
