GDSC bowls has hosted the first of what is hoped to be an annual event, the Australia Day bowls tournament.
The day started with a Spider, which was won by T MacDonald followed by a one bowl event. This was a new game at the GDSC which was enjoyable for all participants. The final came down to nine bowlers, with M Shorten winning the $100 with a very narrow margin over Club president T Lickiss.
After the one bowl event, there was mixed triples competition held. Winners went to M Walsh, V Hall and T Shorten, with runners up being won by R Grant, I McDonald and D Walsh whilst the Lucky Losers were M Hall, C Skinner and B Elder.
The day’s best dressed Aussie themed lady was F Cannon, whilst J Pye won the men’s best dressed section. A special to Allan Gough and Toni Shorten who made the day such a success, and as suggested by ladies president Mary Firth, let’s make the day even bigger and better next year.
Friday saw 26 players on the GDSC Greens, with most games going down to the wire. D Brown and B Gaarsted were the day’s winners, with H Zegerius and D Cutts runner’s up whilst B Elder and J Moerenhout were Lucky Losers. The Tony’s Handyman and Home Maintenance resting toucher went to the only good bowler on the day, M Cook with a time of 9:56.
Wednesday had 28 players and a couple of big margins on the score cards. Winners for the day were H Zegerius and M Cook, with G Gumbleton and R Grant the day’s runners up and D Wood and J O’Shea the Lucky Losers. There were three good bowlers but the Tony’s Handyman and Home Maintenance resting toucher prize was won by M Harding with a good time of 9:24.
There are District events starting soon which will as well as club games coming up so make sure you keep your eyes on the board to stay up to date, and that wraps up this week in bowls.
