Two of Clarence Valley Council’s largest public infrastructure projects in recent years, the Regional Aquatic Centre and the Treelands Drive Community Precinct are both progressing well and within their allocated budgets.

At the July 23 Clarence Valley Council CVC meeting, councillors unanimously supported updates on the status of both projects for which Council borrowed $24.72 million to fund.

Anticipated to be open in December 2024, weather permitting, The Regional Aquatic Centre, with an approved budget of $26,492,351 (ex GST) is being built by Hines Construction Pty Ltd.

Currently on track to be delivered on time, as of June, the 25 metre pool and leisure pools backwash and balance tanks are complete, the splashpad balance tank is finished, the roof on the indoor facility is installed, installation of the Myrtha system in the 50 metre pool has started, excavation of the 25 metre and leisure pools had begun, the blockwork on the indoor facility plant room is done, and blockwork for the grandstand is underway.

In the 8 months since November 2023, the project has cost $9,660,599.

“Due to inclement weather progress on the outdoor pools has been delayed,” the July CVC meeting agenda states.

“If wet weather continues, the target completion date in December may be compromised.”

Scheduled to open in June 2025, the Treelands Drive Community Precinct, with an approved budget of $17,973,230 (ex GST) is being built by Bennett Constructions Pty Ltd.

As of June, the second of three stages of structural steel has been installed, pour five of six ground slabs is complete, perimeter protection is installed, roof safety mesh is complete, roofing to the lower roof area is underway, and the OSD tank lid has been poured.

Since the project started in 2023, $4,145,873 has been spent on construction.

“Due to recurrent inclement weather, there have been extensions of time awarded to the Contractor,” the July CVC meeting agenda states.

“The project remains on track to be delivered by June 2025, however if the wet weather continues, the completion date could be affected.”
