A lasting legacy of generosity and support

The Clarence Valley community is being encouraged to give generously during Legacy Week this year.

An annual event which first began in the 1940s, Legacy Week is a special occasion, and a time when all Australians are asked to reach into their wallets and their hearts, to help families whose loved ones proudly served our country.

Grafton Legacy has assisted Clarence Valley war widows and their children since it received its charter in 1953 and has helped to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of local families.

Grafton Legacy operates on local donations to support residents and assists with Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Pensions and enquiries, educational grants, and home living arrangements.

President and Treasurer of Grafton Legacy Robert McFarlane said Legacy Week is an important time to support families of veterans across the Clarence Valley.

He is encouraging residents to make a donation, and purchase mementos from specially marked boxes located at major retailers and local businesses.

“Every contribution raised by Grafton Legacy stays in the area and goes towards helping the families of those who have served our country,” he said.

“Legacy Week has always been well supported in the past.

“We’re hoping the community gives generously once again.”

Legacy Week 2022 will be held from August 29 until September 5.

Grafton Legacy will have donation tables set up at Grafton Shoppingworld and Grafton Food Emporium from August 31 until September 2.

Yamba Fair will have a special stall operating on the same dates, and a donation table will also be set up in River Street, Maclean, on September 1 and 2.

All donation tables will be managed by dedicated volunteers, and many of them will also be out and about amongst the community, selling a range of items including pens, pins, wristbands and badges.
