Grafton Senior Citizens October meeting

Grafton Senior Citizens Inc. recently held October meeting saw an attendance of 44, with 6 apologies.

Guest speaker Pauline Glasser, spoke on her life, beginning on a farm at Lower Southgate, then as a schoolteacher, and after retirement, farming of alpacas, who are members of the camel family, and being herd animals, two or more are needed. The Glassers have just over 40, an unlike goat, eat good pasture, not rubbish. 

Sick members – best wishes to Barb Cassie, Joy Wright for a speedy recovery.

Deaths – Sincere sympathy to Terry Miller & family on sudden passing of wife, Rhonda. Also, Max Lawson, on the passing of his sister.

New members – welcome Jenny Evans, Beryl Wilson.

Correspondence in – Westlawn Investments roll over; thank you card. Out – sympathy cards.

Bus trips – Successful 4-day September Stanthorpe tour; next is a day trip to Pub With No Beer, and the Nambucca area on November 15, with over 30 booked already, but bookings can continue to the end of October. Trips for next year are now being considered.

General business – more support needed for weekly activities, which are for members to have social interaction and mental and physical stimulation; mention of extreme insurance costs, one member over $50,000; secured new cupboard, which has now had shelves installed; perpetual wreath for use on Anzac day made by craft group.

Christmas Luncheon – Friday, November 29, with a 2-course lunch, $20, bookings now open. Groceries for competition hamper prizes welcome.

Newsletter – next issue will be ready for distribution next meeting.

Scams – mention made of 4 different scams, by phone and email.

Seniors Week – Expected to be early March next year, during which time we plan a membership drive.

Next meeting – Tuesday, November 12 at 10am, guest speaker, Damien Fisher, Loving Life radio.
