Thursday, May 13 – medley Stableford
The threat of more rain did nothing to deter the increasing number of Thursday players and they were rewarded with great golf conditions.
With visitors from Redland Bay, Wynnum Beaudesert and Grafton witnessing two players on 40 points in Grade A. Club president Geoff Grayson just scraped in on a c/b from Kyle Woodbine (playing off 1) from Wynnum.
Grade B was taken by Richard Parker with a magnificent 41 points but only two points clear of Graham Millard.
Nearest the pin prizes to Geoffrey Dickenson, Fraser Marsh, Graham Millard, Justin Menzies, and Grafton’s Jeff Hackett scooped the Thistle.
The lack of run meant the course was playing extremely long with only six other players playing to their handicaps.

Saturday, May 15 – Monthly Medal – John McFarlane Memorial Day

Sponsored by Yamba Pools and Spas and played in brilliant sunshine with excellent numbers of nearly ninety. The field enjoyed a tough challenge with all the tee boxes at the very back of the tees and the pin positions varying from challenging to very difficult. Greens running up to 10 on the stimpmeter bode of even quicker surfaces in the next few weeks.
In the conditions, the four players who bettered their handicaps should be justifiably proud.
In Grade A, Andrew Cowling led the way with a nett 70 closely followed by David Bruton on 71 and Phil Hurst on 73.
Grade B was fittingly won by John’s mother Helen Mcfarlane on c/b from Geoffrey Dickinson and Rick O’Connor.

Greenkeeper Shaun Rose showed his potential with a tap in Eagle 3 on the 14th hole, two other birdies, and a nearest the pin.

Other nearest the pins were David Bruton, John Carlton, and Bill Rorke.

Thistle went to Geoff Grayson with extremely tricky pin placement.

Geoff welcomed plenty of the McFarlane family at the presentation and it was good to see the clubhouse buzzing again.
