Cooler conditions descend on Yamba for ladies golf

Despite the boggy conditions underfoot last Wednesday, most of the 30 ladies who played came in happy with their rounds.

With only one grade, Val Pate was the stand-out player winning a great score of 38pts. Jo King beat Gwynne Thomas on c/b with both ladies scoring 33pts.

NTP’s: Yamba Medical Centre 3rd – Val Pate; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Lesley Love; Leonie May Millinery 9th (2nd) – Jo King; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – Di Sigle; The Shoe Boutique 12th – Jenny Muir; Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – N/A and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Gwynne Thomas.

Balls were awarded to 31pts.

Linda Bloch donated a very generous hamper of goodies to continue the legacy of her mother, Audrey Robinson, who was a Yamba ladies golf stalwart and Club Life Member. Gillian Holst was a very excited winner. The combined proceeds from last and next Wednesday’s raffles will go to the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. Many thanks go to Lyn Rowland for offering to provide the raffle for next week so have your gold coins at the ready.

Due to low numbers, our usual nine-hole competition could not be held last Wednesday. Hopefully, more ladies will play this week.

Friday’s GNSW Keno 2BBB Ambrose had a field of 19 teams and conditions could not have been more perfect. Congratulations go to Carrie Aitken and Leigh Robertson who won (71.25) just ahead of Di Sigle and Jennifer Fagan (71.5). Val Pate and Moira Morrow won a ball each for their NTP shot on the Flots and Jets 3rd hole while Julie Grant and Ann Groom won the Amie Rose Beauty 12th. Well done ladies! Balls were awarded 72.5. Carrie and Leigh will now contest the Regional final to be held in mid-October.

Weather conditions had a wintery feel for last Saturday morning’s competition. From a field of 11 ladies, Jane Bonner was a very excited winner (37pts) edging out Jenifer Moody who scored 34pts.

The NTP was won by Tana Lowe.

Unfortunately, last Monday’s Pennants round was canceled due to wet weather in Grafton. Div 2 had a bye this week while Div 1 played their round against Casino at home. Results will be published next week.

This week’s competitions will be a monthly medal Stroke round followed by a Par event this Friday.

Happy golfing.
