$79.7 million Carrs Drive 216 home DA

A development application (DA) has been lodged with Clarence Valley Council for a 216-home development to be built on the West Yamba floodplain off Carrs Drive.

The DA for a 216 dwelling manufactured home estate and communal facilities was lodged with Clarence Valley Council CVC on Thursday, May 4, and advertised on council’s website.

Council staff are currently assessing the development, which has an estimated cost of $79,797,000.

The application was received by council from The Trustee For Yamba Land Trust for the development proposed at 120 Carrs Drive, Yamba.

The 40-acre lot at 120 Carrs Drive was sold in April 2001 for $230,000, then 20 years later in July 2021 it was sold for $5.3 million.

The land on the western side of Carrs Drive shares its northern boundary with the Clifton Yamba over 55s Lifestyle Resort that is under construction.

The area in question is part of the West Yamba Urban Release Area WYURA, which was the subject of a rezoning motion by Deputy Mayor Greg Clancy at the April CVC meeting, in an attempt to prevent further development and fill in the area that has exacerbated flooding in Yamba.

The rezoning motion was defeated as a number of councillors stated they were supportive of the motion, but they wanted to wait for the latest flood modelling and studies to be released.
