President Denise McLachlan celebrating with reps from each of the CRDWBA clubs.

70 years for CRDWBA

A highly successful 70th Birthday celebration of Clarence River District Women’s Bowls Association was held at the Iluka Bowling Club on Tuesday April 12.

The celebration doubled as the District Gala Day and was the exact date that the very first Gala Day was held back in 1952.

Over 90 members from across the District attended from Red Rock-Corindi, Wooli, South Grafton, Grafton District Services, Maclean, Yamba and Iluka Bowling Clubs.

After a morning of spirited, friendly competition in composite teams, members enjoyed a convivial luncheon while prizes were awarded, and raffles and the money board were drawn.

Sales from the Trading Tables and the subsequent auction coupled with the raffles and money board netted a handsome profit of approximately $1650 to assist in the running of the District over the next 12 months.

A huge vote of thanks must go firstly to President Ann, Secretary Ros and the happy band from Iluka WBC.

Secondly thank you so much to the many members who donated goods, and to everyone who bought items and entered the comps on the day.

Special plaudits to Anna Bunn for her tireless efforts in setting up and running the Trading Tables, especially for the very early hour she left her home in South Grafton to do so.

And thanks, as well to Judy Abbott who with her usual dry wit and no-nonsense auctioneering cleared the tables to raise more funds.

Cutting the 70th Birthday cake (l-r) Secretary Andrea Rudd, Life Member Shirley Drum and President Denise McLachlan.

President Denise then invited Life Member, Shirley Drum to assist in the cutting of the delicious anniversary cake.

Members are reminded of our next big District day, on Monday May 16 at Yamba, President Denise’s President’s Day. Information sheets have been sent to Club secretaries.
