Clarence Valley teenager Chantell Claydon, 14, has wanted to be a Junior Jacaranda candidate for a long time, and was inspired to nominate in 2024 after two girls who attended Studio One Dance Academy (SODA) alongside her previously nominated in past Grafton Jacaranda Festivals.

Chantell also has a proud connection to the Grafton Jacaranda Festival.

In 2013 she was announced as the Grand Champion during the Jacaranda Beautiful Babies Competition, where many complimented her on her presentation and etiquette mannerisms.

As a 2024 Junior Jacaranda candidate, Chantell is looking forward to participating in the Jacaranda Ball and the Jacaranda Children’s Party, and said she would like to overcome her fear of public speaking.

During her attendance at past Grafton Jacaranda Festivals, Chantell has enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, seeing local shops and people dress up for the festivities, having fun with her friends at all of the festival events, and dancing during the Crowning Ceremony.

“It is so exciting to be part of the celebrations for the 90th Anniversary of the Grafton Jacaranda Festival this year,” she said.

“My favourite event to attend (each year) is the Crowning Ceremony as I get to see who gets crowned as the new King, Queen, or Ambassador, Princess, or Prince.”

Chantell attends Clarence Valley Anglican School (CVAS), and her hobbies include dancing, playing hockey, and playing with her dogs.

Chantell is proudly sponsored by the Clocktower Hotel, and said the title she would like to have is the 2024 Junior Jacaranda Queen if she is crowned during the Westlawn Jacaranda Royal Party Crowning Ceremony on October 26.
