Yamba’s Lindsay Wall has taken out the Yamba Ultimate Triathlon Festival’s, ‘Ultimate’ solo event on Sunday. Wall completed the gruelling 1.9km swim, 9km bike and 21.1km run in a time of four hours and 11 minutes. Mr Wall said that he appreciated not having to travel, to compete in the weekend’s event. “It was good to be able to sleep in my own bed,” said Mr Wall. “It’s pretty special competing in familiar territory and having the home town advantage.” Mr Wall said that he has been involved in triathlons since around the age of 10 and has competed not only in Australia, but also in a couple of events overseas. The Harwood Island primary school teacher said that he hoped he could be a role model for young people. “I’d like to see more juniors get involved in the sport.” Mr Wall was not the only member of his family competing in the weekend’s events. His father David, brother Brendan and wife [of one week] Jessica, also competed. “We are so lucky to have a festival like this in our area.”
