Lucky winners today were N. Beck, S. Burns and S. Grodski who defeated J. Stone, C. Muldoon, A. Trevor to take home the money. Runners-up were J. Carroll, M. Oulton, J. Oulton d A. Lambie, B. Backshall, S. Butler by a narrow margin of 2 shots. Encouragement award for the day went to D. Nancarrow, G. Dennis, R. Avnell defeated by S. Farrar, G. Johnson, C. Lindsay.

Club Triples semi-finals and final

In an early game played on Saturday August 5, team B. Backshall, J. Madden J, Beaumont d K. Gunning, K. Mason, M. Jenner (33-11).

On Sunday 6 the remainder of the field took to the greens for the morning semi-final to decide the finalists.

Results as follows: In the men’s Club Triples, P. Gray, B. Wynne, G. Dickson d G. Symes, J. Atherton, S. Cook (31-21); M. Bilton, G. Morehead, J. Pinnock d D. Atkinson, S. Cassidy, B. Ballantyne (27-21); G. Dickson and team will meet J. Pinnock and team in the afternoon’s final.

On the adjacent rink the remaining semi-finalists in the women’s section battled it out to find out who was to meet the winners of the previous day’s early semi-final game – Julie Beaumont and team. And it was team K. Gunning, P. Chilcott, C. Cole who came out the victors in this one with a 28-16 win over J. Pearson, L. Duncan, C. Ritale.

Great conditions prevailed for the afternoon games with the greens bathed in a warm winter sun.

In the men’s final it was neck and neck between Jason and Glen’s teams until the 13th end, when Glen and Co nudged ahead to a 6 shot lead and despite a 3 for Jason on the 15th end to close the gap a little Glen followed with an unmet run of 13 shots over the next 6 ends to stretch the scoreline out to a 16 shot lead finishing up with a 15 shot win – 31-16.

The women’s final was a different story with Skip Julie Beaumont in fine form and showing no mercy to her opposition, racing out to a 9 shot lead in the first few ends and continuing on winning almost every end despite the great efforts of Chris and team. Finals scoreline was 31-11.

All players gave their all though throughout the game and showed some fine form. Congratulations to the winners and also to each and every bowler who contested the Club Triples over the last two weekends.

Yamba men’s Pennant results

Winners of the men’s Club Triples were the team of P. Gray, B. Wynne, G. Dickson.

On Saturday August 5 the 2023 Pennant season got off the ground, and what a start to the season for the Grade 3.1 side with a draw against Lismore Workers on their home ground.

Team P. Gray, J. McHutchison, J. Johnson and P. Forrester scored 17 on the day and team B. Pingel, C. Muldoon, B. Ballantyne, D. Johnson scored 28 shots on the board with the Lismore Workers side managing 13 plus 32 – end result Yamba 45 and Lismore Workers 45. 2 ½ points.

In the Grade 3.2 side team D. Atkinson, G. Morehead, S. Cassidy, M, Muttley scored 23 shots against the visiting Ballina side who had a total of 19 shots and S. Farrar, A. Reed, R. Schafer, S. Butler achieved 22 shots against Ballina’s 16. End result an overall win of 47-35. 5 points.

The Grade 4 side were defeated on both rinks by the Maclean side at Maclean Bowling Club resulting in 0 points.

The Open Minor Singles will commence next Sunday August 13. Good luck to all players.
