A weekend of inclement weather could not detract from the wonderful job Yamba Bowling Club, in association with Maclean Bowling Club, did in running the Grade 4 State Pennant finals recently from March 24-27.
Thanks to the fantastic efforts by Yamba Club members & club staff the championships ran superbly under the leadership of event manger Robyn McPherson.
Despite the weather conditions the bowls played during the finals was of a very high standard from the initial games on Friday right through to the final on Sunday afternoon.
Sawtell were crowned the 2022 State Champions in Grade 4 when they overcame Hazelbrook in the final by playing quality bowls & recording a comfortable victory to become worthy champions.
Congratulations to Sawtell on this fine achievement.
A very special mention to all the players from each participating club involved in this event as your wiliness to continue playing in less-than-ideal conditions contributed greatly to the successful running of the State 4 finals.
Thank you also to Jayson Pinnock & members of Maclean Bowling Club who co hosted this event & from all reports did a great job in helping make the championship the success it was.
The success of this event has wetted the appetite for Yamba Bowling Club to possibly host future State Championship events & this was supported by Bowls NSW representative Owen Walker, who stated that the club should definitely be strongly considered for the hosting of such state events as they arise in the future.
Finally, once again a very special thank you & congratulations to the events manger Robyn McPherson, each & every Yamba Bowling Club volunteer, CEO Phil Boughton & his great staff for the sensational contribution you all made in making the championships such a resounding success.
On the Yamba championship front we have postponed both the men’s & ladies Triples Championships that were set for last weekend until the upcoming weekend due to the uncertainty of road access to Yamba from surrounding areas following the recent heavy rain & rise in river levels.
The final of the Minor Triples will also be set for a date suitable for all players involved.
