Yamba ladies have a new Champion

Our new Club Champion for 2023 is Carol Ritale. Carol took out the coveted title after a very entertaining game against runner-up Chris Cole.

With Carol holding the lead for the majority of the game it seemed as though the title was in the bag for her – but never underestimate the skills of veteran of the game – Chris Cole. Chris rallied with 7 shots over 4 ends to come within 1 shot of the lead on the 22nd end. But Carol was unfazed and continued to maintain the lead until the end of the game with a 25 – 18 lead.

A wonderful game showcasing the skills of both these experienced players and played in parallel with the men’s singles final, taken out by Graham Meaney against Alan Abbott – a feast of good bowls for the large crowd of spectators lining the bank of the green.

Thanks go to the markers and umpires for their input throughout the competition.

As I have been away for a break, I must offer late congratulations to our District Fours Champions – the Yamba team of Jane Madden, Marianne Jenner, Monica Parker and Helen Atkinson played at GDSC mid-February. Our girls will be off to the Regional Playoffs at Cabarita on March 28.

The Club Pairs (men’s and women’s) play to start on Tuesday February 28 in the cool of the evening – commencing at 5pm.

And a new competition for our Calendar – a monthly open pairs game – gets off the starting block on Monday April 17 – $50 per team – includes lunch.

Fun times ahead.
