Yamba Bowling Club Croquet – end of year

Wednesday December 13

Today marked the last day of play for 2023 and there were some very strange looking characters turning up for the game. Some had ears that flapped, others wore a lot of tinsel, bells and funny looking hats with pom poms, and a lot of very colourful tee shirts. There was no scoring or fines today just a very enjoyable morning of fun and laughter.

Conditions were very hot so an early start to the open bar and Christmas party in the club was considered a better option. Funds raised for the bar were from the $2 fines collected throughout the year for hitting the centre post – an excellent bar this year thanks to Gail who claimed she managed to almost fund it solely! A special presentation trophy was made to Helen who had 10 hoop to hoop shots for the year.

A very enjoyable lunch with lots of laughter and good cheer. Thank you to Trevor Barsley for taking time bring his drone and come to some games and film players in motion. This was viewed at the party amidst much laughter. Special guests were Bowling Club CEO Phil Boughton and Bowling Club President Ian Lauder and his wife Joy.

On behalf of the YBC Croquet Club I would like to thank the Bowling Club for generously making the greens available to us and the greenkeepers for setting up each week. It is a terrific location and enjoyed by all.

A big thank you to John and Fay Church who organise, and coordinate play each week. It is always done without fuss and bother and not much confusion amongst the players.

Play resumes at Yamba Bowling Club on Wednesday morning at 8.30am on January 10.

Come along and join us to take in the lovely coastal fresh air, meet new people, have some laughs, and learn a new sport. Croquet is the name of the game. Don’t be shy come along have a try.

For further information contact Fay and John on 0438 768 049.

Merry Christmas.
