The peak body representing volunteer fire fighters in NSW, the Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA), visited Grafton on June 30 to thank volunteers for their mighty efforts through fires, floods and other times of local emergency and crisis. 

Volunteers and their families were invited to a gala dinner at the Grafton District Services Club (GDSC) to honour them, with entertainment provided by musicians Grace + Hugh.

The visit is part of a five-day Recovery Tour through Northern NSW to honour volunteers.

RFSA President Scott Campbell said the volunteers deserved to know that their association, and the community, stood firmly behind them at all times.

“We all know the courage, bravery and selflessness that these men and women show in their dedicated efforts to look after the community in times of need,” he said.

“They need to know that we have their backs, too.

“That’s why we are here in Grafton to thank them, and to celebrate their fantastic efforts.”

Mr Campbell said volunteers can be certain that the RFSA is fighting on their behalf to ensure they get the support they need to do their jobs well, and to make sure they are looked after too.

“The RFSA is making sure that the government knows what our volunteers need out there when they are protecting our communities, protecting lives, and property, to make sure they have the right resources,” he revealed.

“We also want to make sure that their interests are looked after if they suffer physical injury or are in need of emotional or professional support due to their volunteer efforts.”

The Northern Recovery Tour continues in Woodburn, Goonellabah (Lismore), Kyogle, and Ocean Shores this week.
