‘The girls final’ at Grafton swimming

It was disappointing this week to learn that Jodie Millar will be leaving our little fold. Jodie hails from Griffith and she is returning home to be near family.

All members wished Jodie the very best for the future, especially with her quest to swim the English Channel in 2023.

On a brighter note, it was good to see John Wainwright back in the water testing out his back problems. Hopefully, results will see him back more frequently in the future.

Numbers were up this week, so twelve heats had to be held.

Progressing from the 25m freestyle heats to the final were Toni Ensbey, Yvonne Shorrock, Anne Simkus and David Moon who took it in his stride when hassled from the sideline with calls of “the girls final”.

David made short work of this event, covering the distance in 11.89 seconds only to be disqualified for breaking by .11

Yvonne was next home but suffered the same fate, breaking by .02.

Anne was next to touch and was awarded the win with Toni taking second spot.

Terry Marsh, Jenny Vickery, Damien O’Mahony and Doug Ensbey managed to make it through to the final of the 50m.

Jenny and Marno outdid themselves, both registering breaks – Jenny a .32 and Marno .96.

Marshy who is swimming very constant times at present was awarded the win and Doug, although a tad slow was place second.

In the final of the 25m B B & B Jodie Millar, Yvonne Shorrock, Gary Dixon and David Moon were hoping to score a win.

In an almighty tussle to cover the distance the quickest, these swimmers presented us with an extremely tight finish.

Yvonne touched just ahead of Gary but unfortunately, they both registered breaks.

Cruising in with a 12.46 off a nominated 13, Moony took the win with Jodie clocking an 18.60 off a nominated 19 to take second place.

The club’s AGM was held after the swim and the majority of office bearers from the previous year were re-elected unopposed.
