Smooth Changes.

Pacific Valley Christian School, at Townsend, has announced a series of events which are designed to make life easier for students – and their parents.

These events are focused on the transition years which are known to cause anxiety and uncertainty for some children. These are the change from preschool to kindergarten and the change from primary school to high school.

The initiatives for young children are the Under 5’s Story Time and the Kindergarten School Readiness Day.

As the name suggests, the Under 5’s Story Time is an opportunity for pre-Kindy age children to enjoy a lovely storytime, familiarise themselves with a Kindy classroom and make new friends. Meanwhile, the parents can enjoy a delicious morning tea and meet the Junior School staff.

The Kindergarten School Readiness Day offers even more interaction between children as they take part in classroom learning and play. Morning tea is provided for both the children and their parents in this two-hour event. Again, staff will be on hand to answer any questions and show parents around the campus.

The transition from primary school to “Big School” sees students moving from the familiarity of having had one main teacher to having subject-based teachers. At Pacific Valley, we have made life a lot easier for students with our unique Middle School (Years 5-8).

Middle School provides a tailored environment in which each student is guided and supported through to adolescence. They have a place, the Home Room, and a person who knows them well, the Home Room Teacher. We use a variety of technologies and resources which are embedded with Biblical perspectives. Not only do we deliver holistic teaching we also prepare our students for more independent learning, on their way to Senior School.

Our Year 7 Discovery Day is the ideal opportunity for students currently in Year 6 to experience what life will be like in Yr 7 and to make new friends. Meanwhile, parents have time to discuss school readiness with Middle School staff and take a look at the whole School.

A future event will inform parents of Year 4 students about the advantages of placing their children into Middle School (Year 5) to experience the full four years of transitioning to Senior School (Year 9 onwards).
